GT Nexus and Open Harbor Team Up to Offer Integrated Logistics Management and Trade Compliance

New collaborative Web technology combines global trade compliance with supply chain event management processes

Alameda, California, August 25, 2003 — GT Nexus, Inc., a provider of global logistics technology, and Open Harbor, Inc., a provider of global trade management solutions, today announced a strategic market initiative that will integrate Open Harbor's content-rich trade security, compliance and documentation services with GT Nexus's logistics management, global visibility and event management systems.

The integrated platform, based on a Web-hosted model, will deliver real-time content for trade security, provide end-to-end global trade workflow and logistics execution, add visibility and control into the supply chain process, and enable collaboration between global trading partners.

As part of the integrated platform, Open Harbor will provide the software, infrastructure and real-time trade content to execute global trade management activities, including product classification, product catalog management, restricted party screening, import and export compliance, trade documentation and trade process automation. GT Nexus will provide supply chain logistics functionalities, such as order management, supply chain modeling, event management and analytics, transportation procurement, contract management and execution, and global visibility at all transaction levels.

The combination of two critical business systems – global trade management and logistics execution – is a powerful way for customers to control and track the flow of goods through the order-to-delivery cycle, and ensures that all crucial trade documentation, customs clearance, regulatory screening and security compliance processes are addressed. Furthermore, it serves as an auditable record of compliance with C-TPAT, the Container Security Initiative, 24-Hour Manifest Rule, and other government security programs.

"Regulatory trade processes affect the movement of global goods as dramatically as any logistics event," noted Greg Johnsen, vice president of marketing for GT Nexus. "Embedding Open Harbor's real-time trade management intelligence lets us integrate another level of critical supply chain information. Our customers gain the ability to systematically capture not just logistics and transportation events, but also trade compliance and security events. Using our proven methodology of modeling optimal performance against actual supply chain behavior, customers can now manage the gaps."

Johnsen added that the agreement allows GT Nexus to leverage the extensive system of international trade documents already built by Open Harbor, complementing the operational logistics documents, such as bills of lading, that GT Nexus provides today.

"In today's environment, any company that imports or exports goods must be extremely diligent about managing trade compliance and security. Executives have to know, more precisely and faster than before, where the products are, who is handling them, how they are documented, and when events occur that put security at risk," said Beth Peterson, vice president of product solutions at Open Harbor. "Combining our real-time content and automated compliance tools with GT Nexus' visibility and event management architecture extends our solution. It supports our goal of giving importers and exporters a comprehensive, single global view that strengthens the security of their supply chain while mitigating risk."

The joint solution will be marketed to customers and prospects of both companies under a referral agreement. It will use Web infrastructure and integration methodologies already deployed successfully by both companies. Application programming interfaces will allow exchange of information and services between the two platforms.
