After successful pilot, Web-based shipment management platform extended to cover additional lanes, customers and partners for petrochemical industry leader
Oakland, CA, October 20, 2009 —GT Nexus today announced that LyondellBasell, one of the world’s largest polymers, petrochemicals and fuels companies, has begun a full roll out of a Web-based global logistics visibility and control platform for its deep sea cargo. The initiative supports the company’s polymers business.
The platform, provided as an on-demand service, was tested and proven during a short pilot phase. LyondellBasell is now extending the platform to cover additional key trade lanes and trade partners across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Australia. The roll out will ultimately cover all global supply sources and trade lanes.
Headquartered in The Netherlands, LyondellBasell Industries operates more than 50 manufacturing sites in 19 countries. With sales representation throughout the world, the company reported 2008 annual revenues of $50.7 billion.
“LyondellBasell is a very strategic customer win for GT Nexus because they’re a leader in the petrochemicals industry,” said Greg Johnsen, EVP and co-founder of GT Nexus. “Their supply chain involves multiple different, independent organizations that each need to see specific information elements related to product that’s being moved by a third party. An industry standard platform like GT Nexus is the perfect way to deliver a multitude of custom, private views to a broad array of constituents.”
Because GT Nexus provides a hosted service, LyondellBasell accesses the platform over the Web, eliminating the need for hardware purchases, software installations, or additional in-house IT staff. The system is delivered through the GT Nexus Trade and Logistics Portal and configured specifically for LyondellBasell, their carriers, their customers and their supply sources.
A number of LyondellBasell carriers were already connected to GT Nexus, which allowed for a quick and successful pilot phase. As part of the expansion project, GT Nexus will integrate with a number of new ocean carriers that specialize in key regions and energy commodities. Once connected to GT Nexus, these carriers will be able to support additional customers on GT Nexus without the need to connect systems and map data feeds.
