The Network Model for Business: Moving Beyond the Value Chain
Over the past twenty years, supply chains have encircled the globe, aided by revolutions in information technology. We’ve now reached a point where the technology available necessitates businesses to reevaluate the “value chain” model. The idea of a linear value chain, where partners have only have visibility into other partners who are immediately “before” or “after” themselves is woefully inadequate for the modern, global, consumer-driven economy. Instead, businesses need to reimagine their supply processes as a network, where real-time visibility into an order extends globally, across every partner.
